She bartered the pirate medallion for the safety of Port Royal. Invoking parlay, Swann is taken aboard the Black Pearl to meet Captain Barbossa.
The Black Pearl attacks Port Royal and Sparrow's association with the ship is first revealed, as is the crew's skeletal curse. That night, with Sparrow imprisoned in the Fort Charles jail, the Prison Dog makes an appearance. It is revealed the one shot Sparrow has in his pistol is reserved for a specific purpose. Their duel delays Sparrow long enough to be captured. Sparrow meets Will Turner for the first time. Sparrow escapes from the docks, avoiding British sentries and seeking refuge in Mr. Norrington reveals Sparrow's pirate brand, the "P" he was marked with by Lord Cutler Beckett. The pirate medallion, awakened by contact with the sea, summons the Black Pearl.
As Sparrow plans to steal a British ship, he rescues Swann, who fell into the ocean. Norrington is promoted from captain to commodore and intends to propose to Elizabeth Swann. Sparrow arrives in Port Royal, sinking the Jolly Mon in the process.
